Weekly Photo Challenge: Solitary

When I heard this week’s photo challenge I immediately had an image of a single tree in an empty space. Of course as often happens with my two boys, the opportunity I had to take these photos was limited to hanging out of the car while we drove past as they slept in the backseat. We have experimented with stopping to take photos and invariably they wake up. Frankly, its not worth the afternoon spent with two kids under 3 who haven’t had enough sleep. So grabbing a shot here and there is how it is for now.

Here are the few photos I took that were usable.

The Ochre Cliff and other Photos

The final lot of photos from my recent photo taking expedition. I love the gentle glow of the ochre cliff in the background. The light was lovely. I don’t have much to say except that I am really enjoying finding and photographing things. I can’t think of anything not worth photographing. That would be an interesting challege actually. Being given something to photograph and trying to come up with an interesting image. I am not sure how it would work though. If no one had any suggestions I might have a month of no photos, haha. Oh dear, that would not do.

The sun lit up the cliffs behind this falling down shelter in the evening. This is another of my favourites.
A closer look at the shelter.
A pelican out for a ‘stroll’ in the evening sun.
Pelicans are actually my favourite bird. You can’t go past a guy who can pack a lunch in his mouth. How efficient is that?!
Dear Universe, I would like a superzoom. Kind regards, Me.
It is a shame you can’t see the bird that well in this photo. I love that he is staring directly at me. By the looks of it, he obviously uses that wall fairly frequently!
Just so you can see the bird (its a Great Cormorant) in case you were interested.
Taken for the colour, I love the tree sock that adorns the local Rainmoth Gallery in Waikerie.

That’s it! I think I am up to date in posting the photos from Waikerie. I hope you enjoyed some of them.

Photos from Broken Cliffs

I said that I would post the recent photos I have been taking in lots. Here are a few more from Broken Cliffs outside Waikerie in the Riverland.

The cliffs are full of fossils and when the light hits them in the evening they turn bright yellow.
I got a bit excited when I saw a Mr Miagi style bonsaiesque tree growing. I grew up with the Karate Kid movies.
The path leads along a narrow gap between the cliffs and the river at Broken Cliffs.

And I did take just a few that weren’t of my children!

Here they are

This palm is in the backyard of my neighbours yard. This particular evening the sunset resulted in incredible light. So I left the boys bath running and ran outside (quite literally ran). This is the best I could capture from my front yard.

A friend of mine and her daughter. She is a photographer and very kindly offered to show me what the buttons on my camera meant! Thanks!!

A bee defying gravity and holding what is possibly the most difficult position just to get to a sour sob. Perhaps it was a circus performing bee?

I am… finding beauty in unexpected places

I was walking through the part of our backyard we haven’t yet got around to renovating today showing W things to keep him entertained. It looks like this.

I got a bit excited when something caught my eye, so I left W with Dad and ran for the camera! (well, iPhone technically a camera phone)

Initially I had wanted to use this as a composition thing. The flower was the subject and the story was supposed to be of the flower searching for warmth in the cold.

Then I noticed this. It didn’t fit with the composition I was trying to find, but I liked that it worked with the focus either way and the one with the flowers in focus is one of my favourite photos that I have taken so far.

Funny how you see things when you’re not looking for them. Happy.

I am… at the playground

I took the boys to the playground on the way home today. It was a consolation really, we had been going to meet people and we had a car disaster so it was the playground on the way home or nothing. They didn’t mind too much. I, of course, whipped out old trusty and started taking photos…

It’s hard to get a good shot when you can hardly see the screen.

I’m pretty sure there would be a fairly strict composition rule about not having a great big whopping line through someone’s head. oh well?!
