Using My Phone to Get Creative

One of the great things about a new baby is the inevitable desire to photograph every thing that happens and every detail to remember forever.

From a photography perpective it has renewed my desire to look for interesting images and shapes to capture. I found myself sitting with little “E” and watching the goings on around me. I may only have my Galaxy and Snapseed but its enough to get a few good, or at least interesting, images a day.

Here is one of little “E”.

He is so tiny at the moment. I want to remember that detail forever,  it will last such a short time.

I took of my older son W. He was dressed up as a fairy doctor and something in the composition of this photo appealed to me. Its a rubbish photo without the filter but it becomes abstract enough with it to focus on the composition over the content.

The other day my boys played in the front yard. I took my iphone and a cheap macro lens out with them. These are the photos I took while they played.

This was one of those tiny, downy feathers you see sometimes on the cement. Sunlight on cement flecks does awesome Bokeh!!

Today’s macro shots are of things that provide little or no interest normally. The first is the very tiny flower of a weed that was growing in my garden. Its is one of those trailing weeds that are tiny, but get into everything. The second is a photo of the leaves on one of my petunias. I am not a huge fan of petunias. The flowers are floppy and never seem to last long and I think they are even less attractive without flowers. When I took the photo I was happy to find a point of interest. They are incredibly HAIRY! I can appreciate them for that. What’s more I am sure that the hairs have some function that I would find fascinating if I knew it. Whether it is related to water or bugs, I have no idea and if I ever find a moment I will Google it, but I have no time now, I have Kindergym to go to and photos to take, edit and upload. Petunia hair functions come below those on my list of priorities so they will have to wait.

This lichen was photographed on a very old (and messy, but that’s another story) tree in our front yard. I think the texture is interesting normally, but its even more interesting up really close.
