Weekly Photo Challenge: Big

I can’t take credit for the photo, but I HAD to share what comes to mind when I think of Big. Australia is full of ‘big things’. Whether it is the Big Banana in Coffs Harbour or the Big Pineapple on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, we have various giant fruits, vegetables and animals dotted around the country as tourist attractions. In my local South Australia we have the Big Orange which I remember visiting as a child, though sadly it now sits closed permanently, but just there, a giant metal orange on the side of the road passing Berri in the Riverland. The Big Lobster in Kingston, the Big Galah in Kimba and only 15 minutes from where I live, the Big Rockinghorse in Gumeracha.

The one that takes the cake for me is the Big Koala in a small rural town in Victoria called Dadswell Bridge.

It is the most hideous big creation I have seen. A GIANT, cement, monstrousity made more alarming by the cement chest hair detailing and ear hair also fashioned from presumably a combination of wire and cement. It disturbs me anytime we drive past. It looks like an unappologetic, stubborn koala. Actually its expression reminds me more of a cane toad than a koala. Strange.
